Canada defeated the United States 2-1 to secure third place in the CONCACAF Nations League, marking its first back-to-back wins over the U.S. since 1985. Jonathan David scored the winning goal in the 59th minute, further cementing his status as Canada’s all-time leading scorer.

The match saw early goals from Tani Oluwaseyi (Canada) and Patrick Agyemang (U.S.), while Canada played without captain Alphonso Davies, who exited with a knee issue. Head coach Jesse Marsch was ejected in the second half for protesting penalty decisions.

The U.S., after a shocking semifinal loss to Panama, suffered consecutive defeats to CONCACAF opponents for the first time since 2019. Mauricio Pochettino’s team struggled offensively, managing only two shots on target.

Both nations, co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, will play international friendlies in June before competing in the Gold Cup, though some key players may miss out due to the overlapping Club World Cup.
