Donald Trump: Canada is a ‘Tariff Abuser’ after Doug Ford’s power move

U.S. President Donald Trump called Canada a “tariff abuser” after Ontario imposed a 25% electricity surcharge on three U.S. states—Minnesota, New York, and Michigan. He claimed the U.S. no longer needed Canada’s energy, cars, or lumber and vowed to stop subsidizing the country. In response, Ontario Premier Doug Ford defended the tariff, blaming Trump for the trade conflict and warning he might cut off electricity exports entirely if tensions escalated. Trump’s comments come amid ongoing trade disputes and his past remarks about annexing Canada.

“I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford had said. “Believe me when I say I do not want to do this. I feel terrible for the American people who didn’t start this trade war. It’s one person who is responsible, it’s President Trump,” he added.
