Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has cut ties with Elon Musk’s Starlink, choosing to invest $22 billion in his own telecommunications infrastructure through América Móvil instead. This strategic shift is expected to impact Starlink financially, as it loses a major partnership in Latin America.
The split reportedly followed a controversial tweet from Musk, implying Slim had ties to organized crime. In response, Slim immediately canceled all Starlink collaborations, causing Musk an estimated $7 billion loss. Slim has since redirected his five-year satellite projects to European and Chinese companies, further reducing U.S. commercial influence in the region.
