Pope Francis, 88, remains in critical condition due to a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis while being treated for pneumonia and a complex lung infection. Though conscious and alert, he is receiving high-flow oxygen and blood transfusions due to low platelet counts. Doctors warn that sepsis remains a major risk, but there is no evidence of it yet.

Despite his condition, Francis continues to eat and work, though he has been advised to rest completely. Vatican officials dismissed speculation about his resignation, emphasizing his focus on recovery. Due to his illness, he will miss Sunday’s Holy Year celebrations and his traditional noon blessing.
