A Canadian tourist was attacked by a shark while attempting to take its photo in the shallow waters of a beach in Turks and Caicos on February 7. The 55-year-old woman was taken to a medical center for treatment, and authorities are investigating. The shark, estimated to be around 6 feet long, has not been identified by species. Shark attacks are rare in Turks and Caicos, with only three recorded between 1749 and 2024. The Canadian government is aware of the incident and is offering consular assistance.
