US Senator Marco Rubio, a vocal critic of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, witnessed the confiscation of a Venezuelan Dassault Falcon 200 jet in the Dominican Republic during his diplomatic trip across Latin America. The plane, detained for violating US sanctions, had been used by Venezuelan officials for international travel, including Maduro’s oil minister’s visit to the UAE for an OPEC meeting. Rubio emphasized Venezuela as a national security concern due to its collapsing economy and mass migration affecting neighboring countries. While President Biden seized another Venezuelan government plane in 2023, he refrained from deporting Venezuelans due to the nation’s crises, contrasting with former President Trump’s earlier hardline stance.
