Cristiano Ronaldo: Messi is great, but I’m most complete

Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent interview on El Chiringuito offered bold insights into his self-assessment as “the most complete player to have existed.” At 39, Ronaldo confidently leaned on statistics to back up his claim, citing his unparalleled goal-scoring record across all methods—right foot, left foot, headers, penalties, and free kicks—as proof of his all-rounded brilliance. His assertion was accompanied by respect for fans who might prefer Messi, Pelé, or Maradona, acknowledging that taste is subjective. However, he made it clear: “I haven’t seen anybody better than me.”

Ronaldo’s competitive spirit remains unshaken, as he emphasized his motivation to keep improving rather than contemplating retirement, setting himself apart from others who might have exited the sport a decade earlier. His move to Al Nassr in 2023 marked a turning point for the Saudi Pro League, a decision he defended against critics who compare it unfairly to leagues like the MLS.

He touched on his departure from Real Madrid, expressing disappointment with the club’s handling of contract negotiations in 2018 but left the door open for a potential return in a different capacity post-retirement. Ronaldo also praised rising star Jude Bellingham, likening him to Zinedine Zidane, calling the young England international “brilliant” with a promising future ahead.
