The FBI is warning professional sports leagues in the U.S. about “organized theft groups” from South America targeting athletes’ homes for high-value items like jewelry, cash, and designer goods. Between September and December, at least nine athletes, including NBA stars Luka Doncic, Mike Conley Jr., Karl Anthony Towns, and NFL players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, experienced burglaries during games.

Thieves use sophisticated methods, including bypassing alarms, using Wi-Fi jammers, and exploiting game schedules to ensure the homes are unoccupied. The crimes are believed to be part of a coordinated effort by skilled criminal groups. While no players have been harmed, law enforcement warns of the potential for violence if residents are home during a burglary. Both the NBA and NFL have issued memos urging vigilance.
