How the Grinch arrested alleged drug dealers in Peru

A Peruvian police officer dressed as the Grinch took charge of the “naughty list” last week during a police operation in Lima to dismantle an alleged drug-trafficking gang.

Footage released by the national police shows the Grinch, wearing Santa’s jacket, sprinting through the streets of Lima, carrying a sledgehammer over his shoulder. In dramatic fashion, the Grinch uses the hammer to smash open a door, allowing officers to raid a building where an alleged drug-dealing family resided. Amid shouts of “Police!” officers apprehended a woman inside and uncovered what appeared to be drugs.

The identity of the officer in costume was not disclosed. The video also shows the Grinch escorting two women to a police car. Standing beside the costumed officer, an agent reported that the operation resulted in the capture of three suspects now in custody. He credited the Grinch disguise for allowing the officer to approach unnoticed.

Photos shared by the police depict the Grinch standing next to the suspects beside a table piled with seized cash and drugs. The names of the accused and further details about the case were not released.

This operation continues a holiday tradition within the police unit, which frequently uses festive disguises during raids. Earlier this year, on Valentine’s Day, an officer in a teddy bear costume staged a “fake love surprise” to arrest an alleged drug dealer. In other operations, officers have dressed as superheroes and horror movie icons like Freddy Krueger and Jason.
