Colombia arrests alleged ‘invisible’ cocaine trafficker wanted in the UK

Colombian authorities, in collaboration with Interpol, have arrested Christopher Neil, a suspected British drug trafficker described as “invisible” for his low-profile lifestyle that allowed him to evade detection. Neil, accused of coordinating cocaine trafficking for Colombia’s Clan del Golfo cartel, was detained on Thursday in Medellin.

Neil had reportedly been living in Colombia since December 2018 and is wanted in the United Kingdom for drug trafficking and money laundering. Colombian police tracked Neil’s movements through Medellin and uncovered a multi-million-dollar transaction between the UK and Colombia, which was key to his capture.

The term “invisible drug traffickers” has been coined by Colombian authorities to describe traffickers who avoid the ostentatious lifestyles once associated with drug lords of the 1980s and 1990s. Neil’s discreet approach stood in stark contrast to the flamboyance of past cartel leaders, allowing him to operate under the radar until now. It is unclear if Neil has legal representation at this time.
