Vince Carter, the first player to score a basket at Scotiabank Arena, will become the first Toronto Raptors player to have his jersey retired. The Raptors will retire Carter’s No. 15 on November 2, 2024, as part of the team’s 30th-anniversary celebrations. This event comes shortly after Carter’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame and ahead of his jersey retirement with the Brooklyn Nets in January 2025.

Carter, known for his high-flying dunks and Rookie of the Year honors, helped the Raptors achieve their first playoff appearance and win. Despite a controversial trade request in 2004, his impact on Canadian basketball is undeniable, as he is credited with popularizing the sport in the country. Over time, the relationship between Carter and the Toronto fanbase has healed, making this jersey retirement a symbolic gesture for both the player and the team.

Though some in the organization believed Kyle Lowry should be the first to receive this honor, the timing of Carter’s Hall of Fame induction and the anniversary season pushed the Raptors to retire his jersey first.
