Reggaeton has become one of the most popular music genres globally over the past twenty years, with artists like Bad Bunny, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and J Balvin topping charts on streaming platforms. A recent study published in the Neuroscience journal by scientists from the Canary Islands and Finland found that reggaeton music stimulates more brain activity than other genres, including classical. The research, which involved 28 participants without musical training and used fMRI scans, showed that reggaeton significantly activates motor areas and the basal ganglia. Lead investigator Dr. Jesús Martín-Fernández suggested these findings could help in researching treatments for Parkinson’s disease, highlighting the genre’s potential benefits for brain health.
