Rosita Joseph, the former COO of NFCGC Investments Inc, a North American operator of Juan Valdez coffee, has been sentenced to 3-6 years in a New York state prison for embezzling over $900,000 from the company. The sentencing, handed down by Justice Laura Ward of Manhattan criminal court, follows Joseph’s guilty plea to grand larceny in the second degree. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg stated that Joseph used the stolen funds to inflate her pay, fund luxurious vacations, and purchase expensive items like gold jewelry and Gucci accessories. Joseph, a Brooklyn resident, entered a plea agreement and expressed remorse for her actions through her lawyer, Liam Malanaphy. NFCGC manages U.S. retail sales of Juan Valdez coffee, while its parent company, Procafecol SA, oversees Juan Valdez cafes and represents coffee growers’ interests. Prosecutors revealed that Joseph was fired after repeatedly refusing document requests for a routine financial audit, and she faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for grand larceny.
