BILLBOARD – Shakira is coming to Canada for the first time in six years.
The Colombian superstar spilled the beans on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour during a surprise performance during Bizzarap’s Coachella set on Fri., April 12.
Her album of the same name was released on March 22, 2024, her first album since 2018’s El Dorado. The album was an immediate hit, debuting at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums. Her 12th album overall, it dropped during a a surge in popularity for Latin music and aligned her with many contemporary stars of the genre from Karol G to Maluma.
She’s maintained a major fanbase in Canada, where she’s toured at least five times. But her November 30 date at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena and December 10 date at the Bell Centre in Montreal will mark her first time playing the country since 2018. As it currently stands, those are her only Canadian dates, but Live Nation Canada’s Director of Latin Music, Ricardo Taco, hints her itinerary could expand.
“Hopefully we can do more, we’ll see,” Taco tells Billboard Canada.
The announcement comes as part of Live Nation Canada’s bigger Latin music strategy, which is heating up as concerts by Latin artists become increasingly popular.
Though it hasn’t reached the same popularity as in the U.S. just yet, more and more major Latin artists are touring Canada, and Live Nation has a plan to grow the market even more. Shakira is the latest addition to the evergrowing list of internationally-recognized Latin artists to perform in Canada in 2024. Maluma, Luis Miguel, Feid and Jennifer Lopez are still set to take the stage in the country in the coming year.
“If we were to go back five years ago… it would’ve been the Trilogy show for Latin music and that’s it. Now we get the Trilogy tour in February, Peso Pluma in June and Shakira in December,” says Taco. “It’s nice to see the growth.”
