Rimas Sports, agency launched by Bad Bunny, faces MLBPA sanctions

William Arroyo, the primary baseball agent at Rimas Sports, a sports agency led by Bad Bunny, had his certification revoked by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) following an investigation into complaints about improper benefits given to players, sources told ESPN. The MLBPA informed Arroyo’s clients of this decision via email.

Rimas Sports released a statement affirming their commitment to professionalism and integrity but refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing process. Arroyo and Rimas Sports have the option to appeal, although it’s unclear if they will. The MLBPA declined to comment, and Arroyo and Jonathan Miranda, a key executive at Rimas, did not respond to ESPN’s requests for comment.

Within a week of its launch in April 2023, Rimas Sports allegedly offered players cash and gifts to switch agencies, violating MLBPA agent regulations. Bad Bunny, along with his manager Noah Assad and executive Jonathan Miranda, launched the agency. Ivan Rodriguez, initially involved as an ambassador, is no longer part of the agency. Rimas Sports, inspired by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, focused on young Latin American baseball talents, signing notable players like Francisco Alvarez and Ezequiel Tovar.

Tovar recently signed a significant contract extension, the largest deal negotiated by Rimas Sports to date. The agency also added veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario to its roster. While Rimas Sports claims independence from Rimas Entertainment, there are opportunities for collaboration between the two, appealing to players. Other Rimas executives, not certified agents, are expected to be denied certification by the MLBPA.
