Bright, a Mexican startup focused on financing distributed solar power plants, recently secured $31.5 million in funding to bolster its operations in Mexico. Notable investors include actor Leonardo DiCaprio, early Uber backers, Daniel Servitje (CEO of Bimbo), and founders from Tesla, Paypal, Stripe, and the Inter-American Development Bank. Thomas Hougaard of the Danish Government Investment Fund praised Bright’s professionalism and potential to provide high-quality, affordable solar energy solutions. Founded in 2014 by Jonah Greenberger and Pablo Castellanos, Bright offers a solar subscription service facilitating the transition to sustainable energy for homes and businesses. With over 30 megawatts installed across 80 Mexican cities, serving 4,700 customers, Bright aims to expand its capacity to 50 megawatts by 2024. The Series C financing, led by the Danish IFU, highlights investor confidence in Bright’s growth trajectory and its contribution to renewable energy expansion in Mexico.
