Some people name their children after famous people — like footballers.
In the Mexican third division there’s one footballer called Zinedine Sidane Hernandez Quezada (pictured in the title image on the right), born the same year that Zinedine Zidane got sent off in the 2006 World Cup final. This is not a typo: the guy’s last name is Sidane, not Zidane.
His father Jose Gildardo explained why he called his son after the legendary French footballer and why the last name starts with an S, not with a Z.
He said: “It’s a tribute to Zinedine Zidane. I played football in Mexico but always had a lot of affection for France and Brazil. Zidane is a footballer who really touched me.
“My son is Sidane though because when I registered his name at birth, the guy who wrote it down didn’t know how to spell it.”
The great news is that the 17-year old Mexican prospect Zinedine Sidane has signed his first professional contract with Chivas de Guadalajara.
