8–12 cm of Snow Could Slow Boxing Day Travel in Toronto

December 26, 2025

If you’re heading out across the GTA this Boxing Day, it’s one of those slow-down-and-bundle-up kind of days. Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Toronto and much of southern Ontario, with 8–12 cm of snowexpected throughout the day.

Snow began lightly in the morning but is forecast to intensify by the afternoon, bringing periods of reduced visibility and challenging travel conditions. The warning stretches across Toronto, York and Durham regions, Barrie, Peterborough, Belleville, parts of cottage country, and large sections of southwestern and northern Ontario.

Drivers and shoppers are being urged to allow extra time on the roads, as accumulating snow and slippery walkways could make getting around tricky. Gusty winds — reaching up to 50 km/h — will add to the discomfort, pushing the wind chill to feel closer to –17°C in the morning and around –10°C later in the day.

While Friday stays cold with a high of –4°C, temperatures are expected to remain similar Saturday before warming slightly on Sunday, when highs could reach 2°C along with a chance of rain.

Bottom line: if you’re Boxing Day shopping or travelling, plan ahead, move carefully, and pack a little extra patience — winter is making itself known today. ❄️
