An 11-year-old Texas schoolgirl, Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, died by suicide after being bullied over her family’s immigration status. Classmates allegedly threatened to report her family to ICE, saying she would be left alone in the U.S. There is no indication that her family was undocumented. Gainesville Independent School District stated it has a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. Jocelynn was hospitalized on February 3 after a suicide attempt and passed away on February 8. Her death comes amid heightened immigration enforcement efforts in the U.S.
