Ontario students will soon need to pass a financial literacy test to earn a high school diploma, as part of several educational changes announced by Education Minister Stephen Lecce. Starting in 2025, students must score at least 70% on this test, which will initially be offered in Grade 10 math. The curriculum will include home economics topics such as managing household budgets and protecting against financial fraud.

Additionally, the province will reinstate the math proficiency test for prospective teachers and update the guidance and career education curriculum, which has not been revised since 2013. These measures aim to enhance students’ practical skills and ensure teachers are well-prepared in mathematics.
